Nu Luxe Salon: For Hair & Heart
For Bree Morton, the connection with her salon was instant, from the moment she first stepped foot in what was formerly A le’ Salon in Cloquet, she knew she wanted to own it one day – in fact, she told her husband, Paul, that very thing after her first day on the job. Less than three years later, her dream came true when she and Paul purchased the salon and rebranded it as Nu Luxe Salon.
Bree and Paul have four children and love being business owners of a small family-owned salon in Cloquet. While Bree runs the salon, Paul handles marketing and social media. One goal they have as business owners is striving to keep everything local and give back to the community with events like their “Kids Cut Event” where they offer free kids cuts for back to school, and sponsoring a local ballfield.
From cuts and color, blowouts, brows and lashes, and full body waxing, Nu Luxe Salon (pronounced “New Looks”) offers every service you need to feel and look your best, and the products to maintain your new look. The salon can also accommodate wedding parties. Client satisfaction is their mission. “I always tell my stylists they need to be passionate about what they do every day,” shared Bree. “ Everything we do is so tedious and can truly make or ruin someone’s day.”
Bree’s staff of stylists is on board with that mission. “I like to say I feel like a proud parent with our team of stylists,” Bree explained. “We have such a great group:
different styles, ages, and personalities so there is someone for everyone which I think is great! Although they are all so different, they all have a passion for this industry and love to continue to learn, which Paul and I think is very important.” Recently, Nu Luxe Stylist Dray, traveled to New York to attend the MoroccanOil Academy.
While cut and color are constant at the salon, Bree says eyelash extensions have been a huge new service they offer. Full, long lashes are a trend that has been growing in recent years. The look really draws dramatic attention to your eyes and creates a glamorous look without a lot of product. Nu Luxe offers “Lavish Lashes”, semi-permanent eyelash extensions that look and feel like your own lashes.
The stylists and clients have come to feel like family to the Mortons. As a stylist, Bree and her staff have been part of so many important parts of their clients’ lives – good and sad. “I have so many amazing clients that I’ve done from one extreme to another – weddings, where you’re helping brides on the biggest, happiest day of their life, to sitting with clients and crying with them as we’ve shaved their head because their hair is falling out so fast from chemo. I’ve watched clients come from remission of cancer, get job promotions, lose loved ones, grow families, and so much more. My clients make our job the absolute best and I wouldn’t be where I am, not only professionally, but personally without them.”
When it comes to dealing with “Minnesota hair”, Bree’s best advice is “Product! Product! Product!”. “A good stylist doesn’t just color or cut your hair, they provide you with the education and products to help maintain and control the style they just gave you. Believe it or not, you should be changing your hair products with the seasons. Your hair changes just like your skin and nails do and products are made to accommodate what your hair is missing out on or overproducing in any given season.”
